Buccaneers Come up all Aces!
Green Bay- What an exciting way to start of the 2011 season, said Head Coach Ken Hinkle. As his first game as the New Head Coach of the Joliet Buccaneers went his way. The Buccaneers traveled to Green Bay, Wisconsin to battle the Green Bay Blackjacks and won in decisive fashion 28-0 this past Saturday afternoon. The Bucs defense played stingy all afternoon, not allowing the ball into the end zone, and not allowing the Blackjacks to get into rhythm. It was an all defensive effort, knowing that we only had a few practices to work on the defense said Assistant Head Coach Vernon McCants.
The only threat in the game came in the late second quarter, when #44 blackjacks running back broke a couple tackles off the left side in Buccaneers territory. Two plays later the ball was inside the redzone with time running out; and the defense stood firm and dug in not allowing the Blackjacks to break the plain. “I was not happy with those calls that I made,” said Coach McCants. I put the guys in that situation on a couple of aggressive calls that I made, and the guys responded well and didn’t over react, and made plays when they had too, McCants said. The Defense was lead by former Cedar Valley Viking # 90 Raphael Parker, # 32 former Plainfield North graduate Jim Theodossopoulos, #21 Tommy Hymon, and former Bolingbrook High Graduate # 33 Ryan Buchanan, nephew of former Indianapolis Colt/Atlanta Falcons Ray Buchanan, who had an interception and a couple of big runs while running the ball. #54 former Romeoville graduate Kyle Vonderheide, and # 2 Pierre Victor came up with a huge fumble recovery. The first quarter was a stall mate as the Buccaneers were trying to find themselves, as they started moving the ball with Veteran #12 Quarterback Danielle Rodgers commanding the offense; Rodgers was able to move the ball in the air and with the help of Veteran Running back # 24 Michael Ingram’s two touchdown runs putting the Bucs ahead and never look back. “Dee and Mike are a coach’s dream, as they both help me with the younger players,” said Coach Hinkle. They’re able to be my eyes and ears on the field, which makes my job as a head coach much easier.
Rodgers also helped in the scoring department with a touchdown run of his own, and former Plainfield North Running back # 3 Matt Schultz ended the scoring with a scamper of his own. After the game, Assistant Coach Ward was speechless during the post game talk, as he was pleased with the effort that both his offensive line and Defensive line did on this overcast afternoon. Next up for the Buccaneers is the Oshkosh Aviators (NLFL) 7pm Kick Off at Romeoville Recreational Park 900 W. Romeo Rd Romeoville, IL.

Joliet, IL – The Bolingbrook Buccaneers Minor League Football Organization announces its decision to change its name to the Joliet Buccaneers Minor League Football Organization for the start of the 2009 season. The decision was taken after extensive research by the Board of Directors as fans and other stakeholders showed the name change would not only benefit the team’s future, but benefit the community as well. Two Individuals that were very instrumental in the name change include Don Ladas “The Voice of Joliet”, an American Football Association Hall of Famer, but best known for all the years he has spent in the sports field, and especially his 47 year association with Joliet Radio Station WJOL, and the Herald News Sports Editor Dick Goss. “The name was chosen to better reflect the team. The team practices and plays in Joliet, and Joliet is where we have held many of our community events.” said CEO Sandra Geib- Ingram. “We are confident that our new identity will help the fans better associate our team as they visit us at Joliet Memorial Stadium”. The new name is also welcomed by Mayor Art Schultz, “This is the City of Champions, and we like Winners”.
The Joliet Buccaneers will kick off their sixth season this coming June 6, 7:00 P.M., at the Romeoville Recreational Park (Dale Blum Football Field) 900 W. Romeo Road. Admission is free for this pre-season game in which we hope to draw a huge crowd for a fun filled night of football. The Buccaneers look forward to getting back to the Championship Game, which they were in 2007. This past season the Buccaneers just made the play-offs and lost in the first round. “It wasn’t a pretty season, but we held our own and played tough through-out the stretch”, said President Michael Ingram. “We have a lot of work to do and we all look forward to a great 2009 season.” The Buccaneers will continue to play home games at Joliet Memorial Stadium under the lights, which has been the home field since the establishment in 2004.
The team offers family affordable entertainment that includes a great game of football and community based live half-time entertainment. We cater to the youth organizations of the surrounding communities. “Our job as an organization is to create and bolster ties within the community, and to uplift the image of minor league football throughout the area”, said Geib-Ingram. “My goal as the CEO for this football team is to represent every man, woman and child in a positive light and to serve those residents and fans who love the game of football, or who can’t afford a ticket for a Chicago Bears game.”
Established in 2004, the Buccaneers are a nonprofit organization that provides the community with a complete minor league football program, which offers individuals a positive alternative to play competitive full contact football, after their high school, and or college career. The Buccaneers goal is to foster a commitment to people that will promote pro-social friendships, strong interpersonal skills, and organize athletics through football among grade school, high school, college and adult age groups in the community.
